HI all, Steve here. I'm a 30 yr tech and college professor that has run in to multiple situations where i find the dash bubbling and or peeling on several models of jaguars. An internet search provides some idea as to the scope of the problem, but it is scattered. My goal is to centralize and compile an extensive database of photographs with Year,Make,Model info This forum seems like the perfect place to have Jaguar owners who have been affected by this problem to share a picture and model info. It will be interesting to find out exactly which models and vehicle years are prone to dash coverings becoming de-laminated. This is obviously a systemic problem that Jaguar has refused to address leaving individual owners on their own to find remedy. Perhaps with sufficient compiled evidence we can encourage the car maker to acknowledge the problem and offer better assistance to vehicle owners. If nothing else, we can document the issue as well as we can.
I've started by adding pics of a 2008 xk in 2020 and 2022 showing progressive shrinkage. 2008 xk picture taken 2020 same 2008 xk taken 2022
A little more explanation of your experience and motivation for this mission is required before you start harvesting our member data.
Your location is vague although the IP Address suggests Niagara. No indication of Jaguar ownership, whether this is an issue you have experienced personally, resolved, failed to resolve or if it is a potential business opportunity.
The issue is almost exclusively restricted to hotter climates and affects a small percentage of owners. The cause is well understood and approaches to resolution have been discussed in the relevant model forums. Jaguar have not addressed fundamental flaws in engines, transmissions and major electronic components and the possibility of them doing so for a trim issue only affecting a minority is extremely remote.
There is no problem with investigating the issue but I want to know the reasons behind this before allowing it to go further. Newbies cannot use the forum PM (Private Message) facility. I am in Niagara Falls , NY. I personally have seen a half dozen examples of dash covering determinations to some extent (in the north east) . They have been on different models and years. I didn't think too much about it until this last one rolled in my garage. I was contracted to replace a heater core, but was blamed afterward for causing this problem even though i have pre-inspection pictures of the dash (first pic).. I am not an upholstery guy, nor want to begin anytime soon. I do however want to try and nail down which models and years are more prone to have the dash peeling disease. I am not a current Jaguar owner but i do work on many. I believe that current owners, perspective buyers, and maintenance technicians should all be made aware of the potential problem. I am not on a crusade to demonize a brand, but would like to document more accurately the extent of the problem. If we can show that the prevalence of this problem is more than cursory, there is a very good chance that more upholstery professionals would like to get involved. I personally would like to see a pre-sewn cover that could be used to re-cover an affected dash. A contract upholstery manufacturer like katskin would be interested in manufacturing such a product if we can show there is a potential for decent sales of such a covering. On the other hand perhaps through our documenting process we find that this problem is too rare to require a solution.

From memory, XK is certainly the most frequent victim of this phenomenon reported on our forums with convertibles being the greater proportion. Fortunately never had this on either of my X150's but have always been careful to use the OE sunshade when touring in the hotter parts of southern Europe.
