Default My First Jaguar-2000 XK8!

I can't believe this car I just bought from a friends aging mother. 2000 XK8 with 12,000 original miles. This has been my wifes dream car for some time. I have been a BMW fanatic for the past 10 years but my 5 series now goes to my son.

We put the top down this weekend and drove up hwy 1 north of the golden gate bridge an was amazed at this cars cornering, handling and drivablility. Amazing.

I am concerned with what I have read about the timing chain tensioners and since my cars last vin numbers are A08910 I am now obsessing that I will loose the engine with only 12,000 miles on it. Anyone know a good independant mechanic on the San Francisco Peninsula?

Can anyone tell me, generally, when these chain tensioners start failing in terms of mileage?

Welcome Paul!

These cars are beauties aren't they? I've had BMWs too, very nice cars, but a Jag has a "thrill factor" just not found in other European marques.

You'll want to keep alert about some things on a 2000MY, one of which is the tensioners, but with 12,000 miles, it is unlikely this is going to surprise you in the next 15 minutes. Looks like you're about due for the FIRST factory oil change if it wasn't done 2K miles ago!

There is a good indy in your area. I've bought parts from them in the past

10 years old and only 12K miles. Wow! What a find. Hopefully it was well kept if not being driven.

PS If this has been your wife's dream car, I'd say you may have a dream wife.

Thanks Everyone. It looks like the oil has been changed twice now and the second oil change was last month. I'm guessing the coolant will probably need changing since the last service was in 2006.

I can't believe it's mine, I mean my wife's!

Nice choice. Thought about giving my wife an XK8 last year for a milestone birthday (won't say exactly which one, for survival's sake), but realized that she would realize it was really for me. Some 8 months later, I did it for myself.
