Default My Intro

Thinking about buying a jag s-type 3.0 2004 w/71,000 miles
or acura tl 2004 w/77,000 miles, they both the same price. I'm having a hard decision. any comment or opinion of both vehicles is greatly appreciated.

p.s. i like the classy look of the s-type much more than the tl but many friends told me that tl would be a better buy and last longer.

Hi!

Welcome to the forums.

On which car to purchase, Decisions as large as a car purchase always have a number of components, two of which are the practical piece and the passionate piece. No one can determine for you, how you would individually weigh those components.

Myself, for example, passionately, I'd rather have the Jag, even if I spent most of my time keeping it in road condition over an Acura that ran perfectly all the time. Not very practical at all...But, Jags move me.

All the Best to you on making this decision....I personally hope you end up with the Jag.

Yah, hard to actually choose an Acura over a Jag around here, so you're likely to find some biased opinions. I'm not too knowledgeable on the 3.0s, but if you were talking 4.2L versions, I could give all three thumbs up...wait, that's not right, well, all thumbs that I have anyway. Read thru some s-type threads and get familiar with the 3.0 versions. Public opinion are still heavily influenced by the jags of yesteryear, the newer models, especially 2003 and up, have been just as reliable as any other car out there that we have seen.

Welcome to the forums!

I echo Stevetech's comments. It really is down to practical over emotional. The Jag evokes a response that in most of us that moved us to purchase Jag's over the European and Japanese rivals. For me, if I had to compare, I wouldn't even look at the Japanese rivals as they don't evoke any emotional response in me what so ever. My harder choice would be comparing to the European rivals, BMW, Audi, Mercedes. But as H20boy noted, you probably won't find much objective viewpoint from anyone here and probably likewise from a competing Acura forum.

That being said, my decision that I made ultimately was between the S-Type and the 98-03 XJ series, which I finally decided that the XJR was the model that evoked the most passionate response in myself and my wife. Actually it was probably my wife the most, and as she is the boss, I focused my search on the XJ's.

Drive them both, several times, and pick the one that meets all of your needs!

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum acorey. For me it would depend a little on where you are with your life. But if you can go for the S-Type R....whole different ball game;-)

I'll put up h2Oboy's missing thumbs.

Welcome, Acura is one of few Japanese cars I like . However comparing a Jaguar to any other cars is like comparing an apple juice to a (fill in the blanks lol )
And also I reckon Acura is FWD ,I personally hate all FWD cars but that doesn't constitute those are rubbish lol

Anyway, pick up Jaguar you won't regret

I own a Jag, but my wife just left for work in our 02 TL type S. 170,000 and it still runs like new. Plenty of power...keep it serviced. Our last daily driver was a 94 Lexus ES300...posted 250,000 when we traded it. That said they aren't Jags either.

Thank you all for great advices. I test drived an 05 s-type 4.2 today.
and the experience was amazing. With that said I will soon become a Jag owner. The only think that i worry about is the reliability but as most jag owners have state that 03+ model are more reliable. i have made my decision.
thank you all again. this car will change my life
