Hello, William,
You know what you've done now, don't you? You've gone beyond addiction to ownership which is right next door to Obsession!

Welcome from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum William,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA North East Region forum by following this link USA North East - ME NH VT MA RI CT NJ NY PA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

LNRb that is a beauty you have as your avatar. That's the car that originally drew me to Jaguar years ago. I'm a total amateur when it comes to tinkering with cars, do you all think its possible for a newbie to learn how to do my own repairs to some extent? anyone else in the same boat?

Thank you, William!

Everyone in here had to start out somewhere, no one was born knowing how to fix a Jaguar.

In some ways it may be better that you don't know about cars as you won't have anything to unlearn. Although Jaguars and indeed all cars follow some of the same basic principles and laws of physics, Jaguar did some strange things sometimes. Since you don't know any different you're not at such a disadvantage as some might be.

You will Certainly be able to do some of your own repairs! First, get a repair manual for your car, Haynes is a good start for general things. Get familiar with all the big pieces parts, where they are and what they do. Start out with the small stuff; changing oil, a few hoses and belts.

By all means, if you have ANY questions how to do something, what this or that is and what it does, post your questions in the proper section for your car and members there who drive and repair their own cars like yours, will be more than happy to help you out. This, after all, is why these forums exist.

I wish you success and many happy hours/miles of relatively trouble free driving. Because, working on your car is the very best way to bond with it.
