New-2005 S-type 3.0 Paid $1850.00 Thanks to this forum!!
Hello all. I have always wanted a Jaguar, working my way up to an 2007+ XKR . Had the opportunity to buy one of two S-types by me, both with trans issues. I searched this forum about the ZF trans issues and notice all the "minor" fixes that were recommended BEFORE taking the car in to a trans shop. Having that knowledge (I also used to be a licensed mechanic in Michigan, so I have all the tools and enough experience to get in trouble) I bought a 2005 3.0 with 172,xxx miles that was in restricted mode, other wise a nice very low rust, nice interior car. Bout it from two Russian guys that had a European car lot in Pontiac Michigan, lots of black Mercedes S550's. Mob I think. I took the car for a drive and everything but the windshield wipers worked, but there was a used windshield motor and wiper assembly in the trunk, along with a few burned out bulbs. Bought it for $1850.00! Brought it home and proceeded to fix all the wiring and change bulbs, clean the interior and check it all out.
As I mentioned I researched the transmission issues and read that the things that can cause the trans to go into restricted mode were- a misfire, low fluid, old fluid, mismatched spark plugs, bad coil, low/old battery. I hooked up my scanner and found a misfire on 6 detected and the O2 sensor bank one number 1 low volts, low battery codes. The sellers had put in a new battery and as I found out cleaning the car they had bought it at a repo auction almost 6 months ago, but only drove it @20 miles. So it had sat. I bought new plugs, new air filter, and throttle body cleaner. I found out you had to take off the intake manifold to change the right side plugs so I did that and removed the throttle body to clean it. I found one new coil on number six, and three Ac Delco plugs on the right side and three Autolite on the left side. Put in Motorcraft original equipment plugs, fixed some broken wires to the lights (I found the reflectors are broken off inside at their adjusting tabs, so I will have to take them off and open them up to fix that, plus the lenses have been sprayed with clear)
After cleaning up under the hood and clearing all the codes I cautiously started it up. Started great, a little rough as it learned and settled into a slightly rough idle, nothing bad, probably dirty injectors. NO CODES. Drove the car and the TRANSMISSION WORKED FINE!!
THANK ALL OF YOU!
I now have a great car. I did break the turn indicator stalk though, so I have to find one of those. (argh) Drove it to work today and averaged 25 mpg over the 53 mile drive. Everything else works, although the sunroof might leak.
I do have a parking brake fault coming up and will search how to fix that, and the left indicator lamp is not getting power, so I will track that issue down.
Once again, thanks to this forum I bought a good car and your forums gave me the info to solve the trans issue. I couldn't be happier!

Congratulations on your new Jaguar!
Someone will be along shortly to direct you to our very active S-type section where you can get help for those codes.
That was a good deal. Not be too long before you've spent more on fuel than the purchase price! I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Hi:
I have a 2003 jaguar s type. I had the parking break fault light come up. I pressed on the brakes while the car was in park. Then I lifted the parking brake handle up. You have to lift it up from the front (the side that is towards the dash). Look at the instrument cluster panel and it should go off. If that doesn't work, then pop the trunk and on your ride side after removing the trunk covering should be the connectors and wires that control the parking brake light which are right above Unhook the connector, and then hook it back up. I am not an expert, just trying to help, you may or not already know this. Happy Holidays to you and congrats on your new Jaguar, she is beautiful!!
