I want to buy a 2003 S-Type 4.2 supercharged with 93K miles from Gator Chrysler in Melbourne, FL. I'm fully mechanical but pay to fix most stuff.
To get to Merritt Island Jaguar, the closest Jag dealer from Melbourne for a full, accurate inspection became too difficult so I found a shop called Strictly Foreign in W Melbourne, Florida.
Before this my own mechanic saw the valve cover was leaking oil which was spewing & smoking from the hot engine. No big deal; just a gasket on an unmaintained car. He also caught cylinders 2 & 3 were misfiring & read a transmission code he couldn't decipher. Still it may be OK with a tune up.
This may be a fair deal at $5500 if the codes are read, suspension is checked in depth & other issues are affordable; I figure less than a few hundred bucks to get it fully functional with a clean bill of health is OK.
The guy at Strictly Foreign said his software may not be as updated as the Jaguar dealer but a 2003 should be no issue. That's logical. So far this appears as a fair alternative. I'm publishing this because too many repair shops & all car dealers cannot be trusted; no offense is meant by that. Lets see if Strictly Foreign is "Strictly Legit".
I'll report my findings here + on other forums. I expect little else from a (Chrysler) dealer but lets see what I learn. If we buy this I assume I'll get into certain normal issues myself & would learn how to supe it up from you serious jag guys...
Please reply any advise if you know the car since I'm not a Jag guy.
Wish me luck please.
Jules

Hello, Jules,
Unfortunately you're right, many used car dealers are not to be trusted. Perhaps that's why the profession has such a bad reputation.
We always like to hear about reputable shops, and I'm sure many members in your area will be interested in your findings.
Welcome from ElinorB.

WOW! You folks are in fact my type of people. I did get a Jag for my son. FACT: We were just shopping for his 1st auto... Any Jag was not at all what we planned but after that 1st deal (NG) I'm so honestly impressed with them!
Plus this & other forums got me exited to own one, as a father-son project at least. I'll reprint the testimonial of exp with 2 dealerships + a decent import shop once I locate best place for reviews... (now in Jaguar Repair by Strictly Foreign in W Melbourne, FL | JagShops.com)...
I'm "tooling up" to maintain the 2004 X-Type, 3.0 I just bought - signing docs tomorrow: 57K miles, $8700, almost mint cond. Yeah we'd love the 4.2 supercharged deal but the kid needs high school / work transportation now.
He's a good kid & we're far from wealthy but it's just soooo cool; Josh my son knows very well no kid "deserves" toys like this but its awesome to see how stoked he is to drive "his Jag" to Melbourne High!
Plus as you guys all know its not only for Josh, dad's using it too. It'll alleviate my boredom with my 2003 Toyota Tacoma, 2 door, 4 cyl pick up, rightly called "Mighty Mouse"...
Notwithstanding that cartoon on it's hood we all know that ride is all about logic; i.e. not really "style" as are our Jags.
