Default New to forum and potential Jag owner

Hello all,
I know forums are kind of a special community, so I hope my posting with my lack of Jag knowledge does not offend anyone. I am looking for a new vehicle and stumbled upon a 2004 x type with 136,xxx miles on it on eBay. Nicely equipped, manual transmission (which surprised me) and a seemingly nice body. Buy it now is $4500, bidding is currently under 2k with 2 days left, and blue book (depending on which condition options are selected) ranges from $25xx - $33xx. My questions after doing some research are:

1. What is a good price for this vehicle?
2. Are they reliable?
3. It seems like maintenance isn't too crazy (i.e. I could do oil changes, etc...) So is this accurate?
4. Do they have quirks? I've read a few reviews about cruise control being unavailable and suspensions going bad.

I was honestly in the market for an accord, but if I can get the x type with same miles and same price, why not go for the jag?

Thank you for your response and welcoming me to the forum.

Hi Raf1085:

I'm so offended! No, just kidding. I think you'll find all of us ready and willing to talk to anybody, particularly if you're interested in a Jag. The X-type guys will help you with the particulars of the car you're looking at. Unless you're good with a wrench, it will almost certainly be a tad more expensive to maintain than an Accord, and probably need more work over time given the Accord's record for accountability. But you are absolutely right, for the same money, what the heck! Buy the Jag! Folks are constantly shocked by how little my beautiful cars cost compared to their equally priced rust buckets.

So that doesn't answer any of your questions, but perhaps it does lend a little moral support - which can sometimes be just as important.

Good luck on the selection!
Scott

Awesome, thanks for the quick feedback. Glad nobody was offended!
The more I read about them, the more I like it. Unfortunately I'm in California for work and won't be back in Ohio for another week so hopefully no one picks it up. I'm not too keen on buying a car sight unseen.

Welcome to the forum Raf1085,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar Forums.

Not in the least offended. We all started with zero knowledge on Jaguars and if you don't ask, you never learn.

Follow Norri's link to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

I can't comment on values in the US but can tell you the members that own X-Types are very passionate about them. Choose wisely and you get a lot of car for your money.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Even if you miss that one, keep your eye out for them. They pop up now and then just like that. Good luck.
