Default The new guy on the block

Whats up everyone! My name is Yousuf, and i am from Maryland, US. I have my eyes set on a 2003 XKR Convertible that i may pickup this weekend. I have had 2 previous cars:

2001 Acura Integra GS-R (crashed it after 4 months...i was young and stupid...)

2003 Acura RSX-S Turbo. I bought this car after i crashed the integra. Calmed down my driving, started doing alot of reading about the car and learned maintenance and confidence to do DIY work along the way. I ended up turbo-ing it. T3/60-1 Garret turbo at 10.5 PSI i was making 400whp and 263 wtq (its a 4-cyl high revving honda....thats alot of tq for that car lol)

I have out grown the car so i am an the verge of selling it..looking for a lil something more luxurious yet sporty.

I am 21 and work at the Pentagon so i though i would get something a little more professional then a loud exhaust in the Pentagon parking lot. I have browsed around here for a little bit, read through some the the FAQs (the ones i could access at least) and i like the way this forum operates, people are much more mature, and im sure older, than the people on clubrsx.com

anyways, if the deal goes through and i get the car, i will defly post up some pics... here are some from the dealer.

hope to see you all around here!

Default Older and more mature....

Ouch! That hurt Yousef, I'm 50 going on 21. Anyhow, welcome to the forum and with your purchase, the real world of fine cars, not to mention a higher monthly payment. Not those little 4 bangers, hp or not. I'm just bustin on ya. You obviously appear to have learned from your experiences & slackers don't get jobs at the Pentagon (30 yr Coastie here). There are many more to come. Nice ride by the way!

I think you'll like that car alot. You sound like you'll appreciate it, take good care of it, and represent all jaguar owners proudly. That car has class and power...perfect combination for someone like you at your age and current position.

If it checks out nicely upon inspection, don't hesitate to take ownership.

Welcome! If you haven't read the new member rules, see my sig for a quickie link for a good read. Enjoy!

oh lord, so when i actually saw the car...there was normal wear and tear...the paint needed to be buffed and rewaxed (i would prefer to do that my self anyways)...

then the bad....the driver door panel was half off and very poorly put back on and was kind of hanging off the top of the door (big gap) There was a screw trying to hold it on in the door jam it was obviously woman owned cuz there were some make-up stains on the cloth (suspicion was confirmed after asking the dealer who was the previous owner)

Took it out for a drive with my g/f...MAN! i love the car!! nice and powerful, got some nice looks.....then the ugly...

my g/f and i seems to smell something fimiliar..smelled like...marshmellows...we were on our way back to the dealership anyways and when we pulled in we notice SMOKE coming out of the hood....we open the hood and a small ploom of smoke comes out...

In panic we call the dealer over and he looks in...apparently the person who last serviced the car left a shop towel ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD! and the rag caught on fire! The dealer pulled out the rag, luckily nothing else was on fire...

already a bad omen for the car...on fire before i even bought it (which i would have if that did not happen) i told the dealer that if the rag on the manifold was any indication of how careless the maintenance had been on that car, that i was going to steer clear...he understood and could not stop apologizing...im sure that mechanic is going to get an EARFUL from the dealer...

so alas i am still on the search for another XKR...

Yousuf,
Sorry to hear about your woes during the test drive. However, you might want to use your observations to your advantage in an effort to negotiate a lower price, and keep the difference back for repairs when they arise. Stuff happens. Loose door panels can be fixed. I don't know history of car, or where service was performed. But, when I purchased mine used, I went to the local Jag dealer and got a print out of all the service they had performed. This may be something to look into to help with your decision.
Good luck either way.
Ralph
