Default new here

Just bought a x-type diesel and thanks to some helpful info on here managed to get what I think was a good deal (lurking before I joined). 2005 2.0d sport with a few extras like sat nav, cruise and managed a new clutch kit with dmf and belt pulleys replaced in with the sale.

Not my first x-type, owned an se a few years back and had a couple of different marques inbetween. The last one being a mundano st220 but with fuel prices rising it seemed like a good time to go back to diesel and the jaguar was first choice.

I forgot how nice they were to own/drive and we are now considering selling the land rover for an xj with lpg but I don't know a lot about these. Are the v8s the same engine as the p38a range rover? If so do they have the same issues like hgf and slipped liners?

Sorry for the long first post and thanks again for the help so far.

Hi and welcome Snoopsmydogg. There is a diesel section on the main page that you should find helpful. I'm afraid they don't have alternate fuel versions here in the USA so I'm not familiar with them, but I'm sure others here may be!

Hey Dogg, welcome to the site, good to have another oil burner here too
The X type is a great ride, being diesel the only thing you're missing is the AWD but no issues with the T/C
You might find the off topic good for fun, maybe check out the mug shot thread and add yours?

Some good guys and great techs, top vendors and more to come....all good

In the meantime I've upgraded you manually to full forum access so you can better view the site

Welcome to the site

To answer your question regarding the Range Rover, the P38a had a Rover V8. The L322 started with a BMW V8 and switched to a Jaguar derived V8 in 2006. Common issues with the XJ's AJ-V8 would be nikasil linings possibly causing blow-by (most that are still driving are fine though) and secondary timing chain tensioner problems (in the 4.0L cars)

Welcome to the forum,

Not too many oil burners here, but there's plenty of other X stuff to talk about.

Thanks all for the welcomes. I will try and update my signature to show current the current model.

K.Westra, the reason for my question was I owed a p38a a few years ago and even after a shortblock replacement there are many many horror stories around the rover v8s. most owners of the rover block i spoke to wished that it had been kept 3.5l as any larger and they seem to bring problems but if the Jaguar v8 is a different lump then i may well have a look (have already seen the recommendations for timing upgrade)

JimC64, its been a while since i had one but i have to say im loving being back in an oil burning x-type (when i can peel the other half out of it ). Even without 4wd I have always been surprised at how well they handle the slippy stuff.

Yeah I hear ya on the other half and not being able to get in the drivers seat....lol

I had the 2.5 with AWD and it was awesome in the winter.....sailed by many cars and even some supposed 4x4's that were stuck....I miss it for the winter tbh
