Default New Jag Owner, NORCAL

Much to my surprise - and everyone else in my family - I am a new Jaguar owner. Well, the car is new to me anyhow.

In a nutshell, due to financial issues I was forced to down size from a rather fast sports car. Sold the car, got rid of the car payment, and had enough cash left over to buy me a used car. I was looking at BMW, MB, and maybe even Lexus. However, this one used 2003 X Type kept catching my eye. I was ready to buy a used Saab convertible, but the roof didn't open and close properly. Took this Jaguar out for a spin and was sold instantly!

I never bought a used car from a used car dealership before, and I knew there was going to be some haggling involved. I'm not good at negotiating like this, so I was prepared to walk away. I low balled them, they laughed, so I told them they had my number if they changed my mind and started to drive off. They stopped me before I hit the street; I paid $7.1k for the car out the door including tax and docs.

The car is pretty clean, has a few dings, engine seems fine, great even, interior is flawless.

I've never purchased a used car like this and never anything so foreign. I'm forty-two years old and my experience with cars is all American sports cars. I've never owned an automatic before, and never owned a four door. I've never had so many questions about a car (I've been reading the forum here for the past week and also the online manuals - thank you for both).

I'm not much into modding cars, but I do want to change the grill at least. First I have a few minor things to fix, need a second key, CD player not working.

I am married with a single kid if it makes a difference. I have a camera, love to take pictures, and will after the weekend - seems it's going to rain a lot for the next few days.

Welcome to the forum Bus Driver. Jags are infectious, once you've been in one, they've got you. As you've mentioned, there's plenty of information here to be had. You might try Minna (sp?) Gallery or Welsh Ent. for the wire grills. Include your year and model in your signature block, so we know what model you're asking about. Enjoy your ride!

Hey Bus Driver,

You were worried buying a used car, I was a bit more than that as my first jag was my first ever E-bay auction item of any kind. It worked out well and cannot wait to get this car finished to my spec.

I buy things on Ebay all the time, never had a problem. I'm also trying to raise money for a bunch of improvements, so I have listed a ton of stuff on Craigslist.

My issue was buying a used car. I haven't bought a used car since I was sixteen, which was almost thirty years ago. I've always had a lot of good luck with cars, and it seems this is the case with the new car.
