Hi,
I'm picking up a 1998 XK8 convertible from My-Next-Car in Sandy this weekend coming.
The car's reg no. is R720 CCY which has had 1 owner, 16k miles and a FSH.
Does anyone know of this car and be able to tell me if the engine has been replaced as I hear these cars suffered from "porous blocks"?
Once I get the car, I hope to catch up with some of you at a local meet.
The early Jaguar V8 engines had Nikasil lined cylinder bores. This lining was attacked by the sulphur content in petrol leading to rapid wear and loss of compression. Sulphur has long since disappeared from our UK fuel and if a Nikasil engine is still running satisfactorily, it is unlikely to give any problems with lining wear. The only way to be absolutely certain about bore condition (other than stripping the engine down for inspection) is to have a 'blow by' test.

Gordon,
Yes you do.
A one owner with only 16k is a tremendous find. It looks superb.
If you ask a Jaguar Dealer nicely, they'll give you a printout of your vehicle specification and warranty history from the Direct Dealer Warranty system. As an example, this is a printout for an XK8 I had a few years ago:

It shows the original supplying dealer and all major component serial numbers.
