Default New to Jags

Hello from Grant, Alabama. Just got a 97 XJ6 Vanden Plas. Black metallic paint, tan interior. Not many options on it. Has 135k, engine runs great, trans shifts great, no rust at all, most electrical stuff works other than drivers seat adjuster. Has sunroof but has been disabled and sealed off, which I dont really care about but may fix it later. Appears to be missing everything but the painted panel, lol. AC blows cold, heat works well. Handles well but hear thunking noises over bumps so needs bushings on shocks or suspension. Havent had time to get it up to check and to change oil. I was looking to bet a 98 BMW 740iL parts car to replace parts on my late dads 97 740i, but the idiot didnt tell me much about the car until I got there and looked at it. Was a total pos. Passed on it then stopped by a guys lot that I buy from once in a while and saw the Jag. Stopped and srove it for the heck of it, never been in a Jag and always heard horror stories about reliability and Lucas, the prince of darkness. After looking online it apparentky was well founded on the older Jags but the Ford owned Jags seem to have improved a lot. I like the straight six, wish it was a stick shift though. I cant figure out the drivers seat, the only button that works is the lumbar support. The seat position and seatback position buttons dont work. Checked every fuse in the car, all of te fuseblocks, lol, lots of them. Did find 2 fuses blown, replaced them and now I have bright interior lights but no working seat. Pass seat works perfectly. How do you remove the switch panel on the seat? Dont see any sctews and dont want to yank on it and break it.

Welcome.

Slide over into the X300 section and ask away.

I never had issues with that seat in mine, so have no answer.

Sunroofs are overrated anyway. Most of the ones I see in Winter are covered with various tape products in an attempt to keep the rain out. Of course we never see that in Summer.

Have been checking the X300 section trying to learn all I can. Jags are all new to me, used to American cars, Japanese, Mercedes, and BMW. This is my first British made vehicle. I like it a lot so far and love the style, no other car looks like it, not even today. Even the new Jags look similar to most others but are very good looking.

Welcome to the forum MarkZ28,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X300 tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks very much. I do need to figure out why the drivers power seat doesnt work, all fuses are good and the lumbar is the only thing working.

Other than simply disconnected wiring harness (and very few are that lucky!), it could be either a fault in the seat switch or the seat module.

I recommend you post the question in X300 tech forum for advice on accessing, removing and testing these items.
