Default New Jaguar owner from Colorado

I recently purchased my first Jaguar.

2004 Jaguar X-Type
3.0 Liter
84K miles

I have owned over 60 vehicles and always do my own repairs. This car has already proved to be a bit of a challenge. And I have a few more repairs to make before its ready for the road.

I live in Colorado and I wanted an All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicle for the winter snow. But I didnt want a boring subaru, audi or SUV......I really liked the styling of the X-Type.

You didn't want boring, you got a challenge. It sounds to me like a Win all around!
Jaguars aren't supposed to be easy. If they were, every Tom, Dick and Harry would own one! LOL

You'll find all the help you need in these forums.
Welcome from ElinorB.

So far the maintenance seems pretty straight forward. Its a bit more difficult to get some tasks done. I just hope its reliable and doesnt leave me stranded on the side of the road.

My biggest complaint so far is that I have to remove the intake manifold to replace the spark plugs.

My car came with a host of problems that I am quickly resolving.

1. it was running in limp mode (bad ground on the ABS controller module)
2. I need to replace the drivers side seat belt tensioner
3. I have P0174 code that I havent figured out yet. I am hoping it will magically go away. (I couldnt find any obvious vacuum leak......and replacing O2 sensors usually doesnt resolve the issue......MAF's are big bucks)
4. The horns are missing. I already have them on order.
5. I had a bad wheel speed sensor.
6. The fuse was blown for the door locks
7. The passenger front power doorlock is not functioning. I still need to pull off the door panel to investigate that issue. I imagine the door actuator is dead......or possibly a cut wire.
8. There is no backlight on the radio display. (cant see it at night). I have no idea what that will entail.
9. I need to have new tires mounted.
10. It needs a wheel alignment

lol....that list was more for my own record of whats been done and what still needs to be completed.

Welcome to the forum gmcgough,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X-Type tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA Central Region forum by following this link USA Central - MT WY CO ND SD NE KS - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
