I'm a retired after over thirty years in maintenance/engineering. Been a gearhead all my life and currently own a 1967 Camaro and 1957 Thunderbird. The T Bird was my wife's idea....said she wanted her own hot rod. Unfortunately, it is a three speed manual equipped car and she will not drive it. The story is more involved but I will not go into it. We've decided to sell the T Bird and get something cool but with an automatic. I do all my own work, have a great shop with a lift and all the tools I'll ever need. I live in middle Tennessee close to kids and grandkids. We're gonna look at a 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 tomorrow morning. Supposed to have a clean CarFax, be in excellent condition and everything works. Guess I'll go to a more specific area on this site and post questions. Thanks for letting me join! 1967 Camaro 1957 Thunderbird
I think you must have read my reply to it, but If you didn't see where I moved your first post, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xjs-x27-32/ to the XJS forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Hello,
You should be able to sell that *Proper* T-Bird (rather than the Fake T-bird of later decades) for quite a lot of money if you want to.
It's too bad your wife refused to drive it. Oh, Well, she'll probably like the Xjs better anyway.

Welcome. About 12 years ago I was shopping for a 67-68 Mustang coupe and wish I had a $100 bill for every time the seller told me "Well, I bought it for my <wife/girlfriend/daughter> hoping to get her to take an interest in my hobby or go to car shows with me, but she never drives it." It was starting to seem like Shelby was right, that Mustangs really were the secretary's car even 45 years later after becoming classics. The one I finally bought was an interesting story in that all three teenagers in a family drove it in high school in the late 70s to early 80s and beat it up pretty good, but the father kept it, eventually paying about three times what I paid for it (I added up his receipts) having it totally restored and presented it back to his eldest daughter as a gift. Daughter never drove it again after the party. When the economy crashed, she asked the father to sell it and just give her the money instead. Reason I got from talking to so many sellers in that situation was that the old classic cars just didn't drive like the modern cars the women were accustomed to. In many cases no power steering, no power brakes, manual transmissions, crank windows, no shoulder belts, etc. (All the things that we men think add to the charm and experience of old cars). The XJS is a much more modern car and has all of those safety and convenience features.

That's my problem. I'd be one of those car hoarders you see on Barn Find Hunter if I weren't so limited on garage space.
