Default New to Jaquar Forums - Intro

Hello. I am attempting to bring a 1996 XJS convertable back to life for a friend. This is my first foray into Jaguar World.

The car has been sitting in the open for 6 years on a SC barrier island near Charleston, so is in bad shape, water intrusion, mold, most electrics not working.

I have not tried to start it yet due to dead battery and discovering oil in the plug wells when opening it up for fogging.......valave cover gaskets have obviously failed.

Anyhoo, this has really piqued my interest in these cars, so might be on the lookout for a nice Coupe.

Most of my previous experience has been with old Alfas (60s and 70s) and "newer" BMWs (90s and 00s). My only British car to date is a 1989 Caterham.

Cheers

Welcome to the Forums.

You will be busy, so I suggest filling that beer fridge.

Good luck.

Hello,
You are in for a Whale of a good time and adventure!
The thing about Discovery on such a vehicle as this (someone else's), When you get your own, you will already have encountered many of Jaguar XJS's idiotsyncracies so you won't be so Shocked when you find them in your own car.

You gonna have a Lot of fun!
Enjoy your voyage of discovery!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
