Default New kid on the block

Greetings, Jaguar Forums.

After years of periodically lurking throughout this site, I've decided it was finally time to join the ranks of what seems to be a group of dedicated, helpful people.

A little about myself; my name is Brian, I was born in 1990, and I own a 1978 XJS. A former manager of an auto parts store up here in Western New York, I've spent the last 9 years in the automotive field, between helping dad in the garage to working in the parts industry. I currently work for one of my former customers. Strange how things like that work out!

The Jag - A survivor car originally from The Neatherlands, imported in to the US sometime in the 90's, making its way up here to New York. It appeared outside of a former customer's shop, so after driving by a few times, I inquired. He had purchased the car for his father, but his father now being elderly could no longer easily get in and out of the low-sitting cat. It had been in a garage, occasionally bumped by a lawn mower or dinged by various whatnots. My 22nd birthday was coming up that year, so...

Since purchasing, I've done a full tune up (minus the ignition rotor that seems to no longer exist), rebuilt the front brakes and suspension, replaced the driver's side floor, removed the old fuel pump system and "engineered" a new pump setup, changed the starter to a gear-reduction style (what not fun that was) and "engineered" a makeshift exhaust after one of the resonators detonated. (And likely other things I've either forgotten or have repressed)

I look forward to interacting with my fellow Jag owners, hopefully picking up some helpful tips and tricks along the way. (And I hope to not ask questions already answered!) Thank you for your time.

Welcome to the forum Brian,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

It sounds like you've already found your way to the XJS tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA North East Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/usa-north-east-me-nh-vt-ma-ri-ct-nj-ny-pa-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Welcome.

My first Jag was at 18 (in 1968), stiil with the marque.

I reckon that rotor is still available. 2 rotors used, one for the 3 wire trigger board, and another style for the 4 wire updated trigger board.

JagDaim here in Melbourne had one for our 4 wire car a few years ago.

That starter is easy on a LHD car, you want to try it on a RHD, where all the steering shafts are in the way, oh dear, subframe lowered is the only real way.

You will enjoy that car, trust me.
