2003 X-Type 2.5 manual trans 60K miles, Edmonds, WA. also have same 2002 w/130K miles and is automatic that is starting to hunt for which gear to be in. Trans shop says no adjustment to this trans? Otherwise the 02 has been very reliable for past 40K mile I have owned it. Looking at 2004 to 09 XJ-8 as replacement for 02 and wandering if they are reliable? I see not good reports on the S type which has same 4.2 L V-8. Anyhow looking forward exchange on this site.

Default x-type transmission shifting issues

Reading about this model when I purchased it just over 3 years and 40K miles (128K total NOW) go a review warned the transmission was a problem. Therefore I had it serviced soon after purchase and again after 20K miles. Went to best trans shop in this area. They advise this trans has no external adjustment and nothing can be done except keeping the trans fluid in good shape. It has had a whine noise most all the time in 2nd and gear slow speed, a bit loud median to high pitch but a little noise and info from trans shop, nothing done. Now it has started to hunt for the correct gear on mild acceleration from 35 to 50 as when you get on to freeway ramp. Shifting to 3rd then 4th keeps it from the jurkie shifting. I spent time looking at history on this sight. Only see one related talking about Halls Effect Switch in shifter. Do not see much on trans problems so wandering what up with the history I read and if there is a fix for problem short of rebuild?
