My 'handle' is Plastic Paddy (I am an imitation apparently because I was born in the UK of Irish parents) I moved to Canada in 2008. After spending my whole life buying family friendly cars and work trucks. Then my commander in chief (wife) gave me permission to get a something I wanted, I looked on Kijiji and couldn't find any thing that hit the spot.
I started finding a posting for a 99 XK8 with 40000 miles on the clock, it was on for C$ 14,000, after a while it went to 13.5, 13, 12.5, 12 and finally offers over c$10,000. That was my budget.
I have been on a project with a German guy who owns four Jags, including an XK8, I gave him the background and he suggested I go for it.
I went for a test drive and offered C$10,000 which was accepted, after that the guy was not returning call etc, I guess he was hoping for a better offer.
Finally we did the deal, he drove it over to me on dealer plates.
I cannot get the safety/ emissions test carried out as the high level brake light isn't working, I am waiting for a ' carefully used one' to arrive this week.
That is the story so far.

Hilarious, I just joined today and was also called a plastic paddy when growing up. Again, both parents Irish but I was born in the UK.

Moved to WV in the US back in 2005 and just bought a Mk 2.

Hi all.
The replacement high level brake light assembly arrived today, it was the correct colour and it worked!
Called the shop to see if they could collect the car to carry out the emissions/ safety. They have guys on vacation, it's that time of year, I have a lot of trust in these guys so I will have to wait a week or so.
I have ordered plates for the car, tried the usual Jaguar, Jag xk8 and various combinations to no avail, have settled on XK8 GB, I hope the powers to be will give them to me, we live in hope.
