I am the owner of a 1999 XK8 Convert with 155,000 plus miles on it but still love it. Must be honest, it's really my wife's car but she let's me drive it.
The only problem I am having with it is the top is sluggest. I read some threads in the forum discussing changing the hydraulic fluid, which I will check.
Thanks for the help already, and I look forward to using the forum much more in the future.

Welcome to this friendly Forum.
You've probably found the XK8 Section
XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

There's a Regional one too
Western US - AK CA NV OR UT HI WA ID - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

You'll probably need to change the fluid but first make sure the little petcock on the pump (in the boot under the CD player) is fully clockwise + check fluid level.

Welcome to the forum Ron,

That's an impressive mileage on the XK8.

The XK8/XKR tech section has plenty of threads (and solutions) on top issues. Follow Steve's link if you haven't found your own way there already.

Enjoy the forum.

Thanks for info.
I found my hydraulic to be just below the low mark.
Is there a special hydraulic fluid I should use?

Ron,

I understand the recommended oil is Pentosin CHF11S hydraulic fluid BUT you'll see from my SigPic that I don't need to worry about the top going up and down and may not be up to speed on the latest convertible oil spec.

Moderators Norri and steveinfrance both have convertibles. One of them will confirm whether this is right.

Graham has quoted the correct spec, it should be green in colour, the earlier fluid was yellow and would gel with age.

I want to thank you very much for the help. I ordered the CHF11S fluid from Amazon and just filled the reservoir today and the top works just fine now.
It was easier than I expected, as the oil came in a can that a small hose could be directly attached that made filling the reservoir very easy. After I ran the top through the cycle, I topped off the reservoir. All is good! Can't wait for summer!

Thanks again for the help.
Ron
