Default New Member.. or am I. 1994 XJ South Bend, IN USA

I may have been a member of this forum years ago when I lived in Seattle and had a 1990 Sovereign XJ6.

Now years later I find myself in Indiana and trying to resurrect a 1994 Vanden Plas XJ that has sat and now doesn't seem to charging the battery.

Alternator is new, the old one had seized, but I did NEGLECT to have it tested before I installed it. Battery is new as well.

Welcome to the forum Benjamin,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X300 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Midwest Region forum by following this link

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome Benjamin. I hope you get it figured out. Just to make a couple suggestions- Make sure the cable on the alt is tight and check the ground strap from the body to the motor..... Good luck

G’day Benjamin and welcome to the forums,

I’d second what Jerry says but also check the entire battery cable all the way from the alternator to the battery.

There is a connection at the fire wall, another under the rear seat with a couple of fuses and also the connector at the battery has a couple of fuses in it.

All these connections can can loosen over time and your battery will fail to charge. You can easily lose a couple of volts if all these connections are not clean and tight.

If you can directly measure alternator output and it’s good and then check battery voltage and if it’s lower then you have a cable problem.

Cheers,
Jeff.
