New Member - considering 1st purchase of a Jaguar

Hello everyone,
I am about to take a second home in another city and need a car on hand while there. I don't want to spend a great deal of money as this will not be the main car that we drive. I am considering a Jaguar mainly because I've ridden in the car of a coworker and got the bug.
I only want to spend around $6500. I've had Volvos which were horrible to maintain, so I'm a bit leary about venturing into the unknown.
I would appreciate comment on what I'm getting into, and any makes to consider and ones to avoid.
Thank you kindly.
James

Hey Corinthian welcome to the site

Can you offer some parameters of what you're after, as it might be helpful.
Have you considered the X type? A lot of car for not a lot of money!
Welcome James! With that budget, if you want bulletproof, stick with the XJ6 models. For a little more, you might be able to find an 02-03 XJ, which are very stable. Do some research on the boards, read up on the best and the worst, and go out and find your car.
We wish you luck!

Don't be fooled by price of the car ,buying can be easy but maintenance might not be not .
I think X300 1995-97 Jaguar AJL6 models should be a good choice . I would also say go for the pate XJ8s but V8 parts might be a little bit more expensive than 6 cyl

Fantastic - thanks, everyone. I have kids, so I was thinking some sort of sedan. Would love a Vanden Plas if that's not asking for a heap of trouble.
