Having previously owned a 1974 Daimler Double Six VDP and a 1989 Jaguar XJS, I've been away from the marque for over 16 years. I'm glad to say that I'm back in the game now with what I think will be an amazingly well preserved X305, XJ12 SWB in Morroco Red.
I have bought it over the net and from 10,000 miles away but I'm reasonably confident based on its history both online, from videos, pics and talking to the current custodian, that it will prove top be a solid buy. I probably won't get to see it in the flesh for another 9 months or so but opportunities don't come along so often for good examples of these.
Will be moving back with family in the next year or two and so I hope to become more involved in the Jaguar scene again at that point. Appreciate the experience and knowledge that members are willing to share here!
Good to have you with us. I've been tempted by the X305 XJ12 or DD6 but prices always seemed over inflated.
I can see you've already posted in X305 forum so no need for a link from me. Thanks Graham. Appreciate the message. Yes, I saw a post and wanted to respond before it skipped my mind!
I have to admit that prices seem all over the place recently and I managed to get a 30% reduction on the asking price by just being cheeky and giving it a go. I don't think there are too many people silly enough to buy a V12 in the current fuel cost climate. But I don't plan on dailying it and I just had a strong feeling that I was meant to buy it! It's not the highest spec car for sure but it has the basics and one family owner from new. Looking at where the prices of the Series XJ's are, I don't think good examples of the X300 will dip much below 5k now which I think is about right when you consider E38's, W140's of the same period. Auctions still seem to have some bargains if you are willing to travel and be willing to waste a day looking at something that might be a corker. or not!
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Scott,
The only example of the V12 I've owned was a 1972 Series 1 XJ12 which I bought shortly after the Series II was introduced. Fuel consumption was prodigious on the early design before the HE brought it a little closer to reality. As I was doing over 25K miles a year in those days, under 10 mpg wasn't sensible and I went back to a 4.2 after a year.
You were lucky to find a one family owner vehicle and it certainly looks a good example from the photos. That kind of price reduction is what it would have taken to persuade me into buying but no one was moving that much about five years ago.
