New member from Elon NC with an issue
Dear fellow jag owners
Just bought my 1999 XK8 and I'm in love.
CEL came on saying restricted performance a day ago, then tonight the voltage indicator dropped way low and then she started smoking quite badly.
Managed to limp home and saw a new message saying battery failed to charge.
I can only surmise the alternator pulley failed and seized and the motor was pushing its belt over the seized alternator pulley. I still had steering and brakes.
I made it home which I attribute to such a fantastic vehicular creation. My girlfriend and I exited the vehicle and I kept the motor running whilst trying to get the top up. It begrudgingly complied and finally got the rear windows up as well. Battery must be dead now.
Do you all think I'm right, a seized alternator pulley??

Just an update to complete the thread, alternator came off and as it did bits fell out of it and it rattled when shook!!! Diagnosis is alternator failure, big shocker!! New alternator monday and new serpentine belt too. Then on to the next grand adventure, 1999 XK is an old lady for sure, but timeless in her beauty.

That's an unusual fault on an XK8.
