New Member and First Time Jaguar Owner
I am a 35 year old former Infantry US Marine. I do Escrow work now in California. My last car was a 2002 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo. After replacing almost every part in that car I realized, "Audi" translates in English, "Audi-Money!"
I always loved the luxurious performance of Jaguar so I bought a 2001 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 V8 that needed a Secondary Timing Chain and Tensioner.
See Pic's Attached:
I want to do the work myself, so I bought all parts to do both sides.
Since the chain doesn't have a link this is going to be a good size job?
With a Link it would take me 30 tops to do both sides; maybe?
So it looks like I have to take off the front of the block to get the Primary Chain off the Top Sprocket so I can slip in the Secondary Chain? Is that right?
I bought the CD Manual, but both my Desk Top and Lap Top will not open properly because the Windows I have is far too current.
I have much literature that I have been collecting for the last two weeks.
I'm planning on renting the tools from MotorCarsLTD.
Is there a better place to rent the tools, or should I just buy them for future wrenching endeavors?
It's crazy that I'm in love with this car and I haven't even driven her yet?
Maybe I'm just super anxious.

Welcome to the forum.
Good to see you.
I'd rent the timing tools, you are only going to use them once. MotorCarsLTD has a great reputation around here, say HI to Ken and let him know where you came from.
For some good downloads, check the link in my signature.

Welcome to the forum,
Good to have you with us.
You can change the secondary tensioners without stripping the front of the engine.
You'll find info in the XK8/R and XJ sections in the FAQ's.
If you haven't already done so you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

I have to install new secondary timing chains as well, so I think I do have to remove the front of the engine; right?
I will add my car details to my Signature, thanks.
I'm having problems adding Pic's, any advise?
