I have a 95 Jag XJ6, all original, it looks like it should be sitting on the showroom floor! I'm also a retired mechanic; been retired for 10 years after i had two heart attacks that were pretty severe that called for a triple bypass so i retired from the Ford dealership.
I still work on vehicles because i really enjoy working on vehicles. It's more of a hobby than a job. Never had a Jag before, nor worked on one but i really like this vehicle and the way it drives/handles, but i was kind of saddened.
Sometimes, i like to feel the power of the vehicle and just knowing it's there is a virtue to me. I'm not a racer, nor into it, but i do like cars with power behind them! I've heard so much about Jaguars, that i was expecting more power than what i got. It is what it is: a straight 6 and is a non-turbo engine. Now, i wish that i had bought a Jag with a V8 and turbos. I was thinking about putting some aftermarket turbos on it, but you also have to worry about potential codes the car might kick out.
I was hoping ya'll could help me out with deciding whether or not it'd be worth trying to put the turbos on it or if this even feasible. I heard that it is the same block, but different heads and it's likely got a different computer.
I'm sure ya'll have this info, but i also recently bought OTP for this vehicle and for some strange reason, it works on my computer whenever it wants to and i can't seem to figure why it does what it does. Maybe ya'll could help with that, too? I heard that the same company offers USB drive. Do you guy know anything about that and if it works better? I have a Windows OS and i don't use a Mac.
I just have a few questions: which would be better for using this disc? Windows or Mac? Or would a USB suffice? When the disc works, i usually print off what i need and i probably have 500+ pages of info printed off, but it's hard to organize so many pages. It would be nice to just have it work correctly...
But back to me! I'm an old man, 58 years old, and used machines that ya'll have never even seen before. I used to tune up cars with what they call a 'sun machine'. It would do the same thing as the scanners do now, that you would hook up from a computer (specifically, a laptop) to a car. I still like a sun machine better than this method because sometimes: you'll get a code telling you it's a certain item. But, there could be other items causing it.
It's just a hunt-and-miss using a scanner, but that's just my opinion!
Also, i'd like to know if you guys know what the best scanner is to use for a 1995 Jaguar because some scanners don't work on a Jaguar. If you use them, they have a tendency to give a wrong code. They'll tell you something is wrong with an item and it doesn't even come with it! So, it would be nice to know what the best scanner is for this particular car.
I've asked this before and i was told the best scanner to use is only the scanner that Jaguar uses at their dealership. There has to be something out there on the market i could purchase with a reasonable price!
But i do enjoy working on my Jaguar. The car is black with brown/tan leather interior and has the best ride i've ever had and handles smoothly! It really hugs the road, and just all-in-all, a nice vehicle. I just wish it had a little more pep to it. If there is something else ya'll want to ask me about myself, please feel free to!
I really don't know what to say, honestly...i'm just an old man that likes to work on cars and i just like the way Jaguars are made. I understand they're expensive, but they are really well-made. If anyone has any ideas about the questions i asked, please feel free to contact me and if you have any questions you want to ask about me: feel free to!
Thank you for your time and consideration!

Hello, Dave,
Yes, Jaguars of that era came from the factory with a straight 6 engine. I've been told Numerous times the point of Jaguars isn't speed but the smooth comfort of which you speak, and the ambiance; the "Aura" surrounding the car when you pull up the "the club."
I'm also told these are good things in UK, and that Mercans are disappointed because they expect All cars to shove them back in the seat at least through 2nd gear.
On the other hand, maybe it only needs a bit of attention to give you its full potential. Someone will be along soon to direct you to the correct section where you can find help and advice you might need.

I can't really tell but it looks like this Jag has spokes wheels. Mine has factory aluminum wheels, but i'd like to put spoke wheels on mine. My Jag actually looks a lot like this car, but a little cleaner, but i wish i could find some spoke rims that have a t-rim that lock the rims onto the hubs like old mg's.
