Now-departed Ford exec father in law gifted MIL w our 1994 XJ6, new after trying it out in a year's lease. Never driven a lot until MIL gifted to us at about 60K OM several years ago, as she then preferred driving her new Ford.
We, esp my wife but I too, consider our basically mint condition XJ6 a family heirloom, so until recently it's been mainly garaged, and driven only every week or so. As an heirloom, maintenance and repairs are always done, minors (oil and fluids checks and top-ups, wiper, lights, fuses) by me, majors by trusted auto mechanics. I read forum posts to stay conversant with my mechanics.
After a previously long-dependable shop ruined our 1999 Audi A6's engine AND nearly ruined this heirloom XJ6's engine two years ago, we decided that our 1994 XJ6 and our 1994 Miata and our 1991 Ford F350 are enough on our insurance and maintenance budget. Thus XJ6 is now our main ride, albeit not daily as we live in Manhattan, NYC.
Currently dealing with XJ6 fuel tank leak which developed after rear shocks or shocks bushings also failed during a long day of driving. The tank drained--luckily not fully till after parking at trip destination 60 miles from home.
I am finding related threads very helpful--thanks!

Welcome to the forums jayhawker,
Did you register with another username some time back? The description of your XJ6's history sounds familiar.
