Please bear with me as I learn to navigate the forum. I live in Napa Ca. My first Jag was an 87 XJ6 that I loved but sold after I bought my XKR. missed the XJ so much I bought a less pristine Euro Spec 85 Sovereign in hopes of resurrecting it. California DMV refuses to allow me to register insofar as it never had a smog pump and did not meet "federal safety and state of California smog" requirements when manufactured. Have a question regarding the brake lamp module in the XJ6 but it appears as though I should start another thread for that question. 2 Cats in the garage It must have been the chrome pepperpots...
Some members have reported problems doing the reverse of importing a US specification Jaguar into Europe. As you have found, it's not just the lights. Type Approval is not transferable but I can't recall an instance where perseverence has not enabled them to eventually clear all the obstacles.

Hello, John,
I'm so sorry you've got crossways with DMV! They have absolutely NO sense of reality as your Xj6 is probably older than most staff anyway. But each one must cover themselves for any decision made, and must be able to point to a LINE OF PRINT to back it up. Otherwise, heads roll from above, and it will probably be theirs.
It is possible to retrofit a pump but it won't be cheap. I do hope you can get it on the road, as there are so few running examples left, the most Beautiful of all 4-wheeled conveyances ever to grace tarmac! But I freely admit my Shameless Bias.
