Default New Member: Just bought a 2003 4.2 S-Type with 103k miles. Lots of questions...

Hi guys,

I understand that this forum encourages introductions. So, here I am, with many questions, after recently purchasing a 2003 4.2 S-Type (non-R; non-electronic suspension).

My auto repair background: I have posted a DIY article on how I replaced my head on my 2000 Grand Cherokee: Beginner’s DIY Guide to Jeep 4.0 Head Replacement: Draft #1 - Jeep Cherokee Forum. For whatever respect that deserves, I remain humble, as auto repair is not my profession; it is simply my hobby.

So, let me start my asking:

1) What are the OEM spark plugs (2003 4.2 S-Type (non-R))?? My best guess: ACDELCO Part # 41800

2) What are the OEM shocks/struts (2003 4.2 S-Type (non-R))? I certainly do not have electric plugs going into the shock towers. Yet, the Bilstein catalog offers too many options: How do I know if I have the "Sport Suspension" or "Standard Suspension" according to Bilstein??

Thanks,
JohnEP

Welcome to the forum John,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums.

I followed your link to the Jeep Cherokee Forum - great write-up and videos.

I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type tech forum so no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues. Members there will be able to advise on Plugs and identifying suspension type.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Mid West Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/mid-west-us-il-ia-mi-mn-mo-oh-wi-39/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Now for the brass tacks:

1) What are the OEM spark plugs (2003 4.2 S-Type (non-R))?? My best guess: ACDELCO Part # 41800. Note: I have no interest in the "best" plugs, I just want the OEM plugs.

2) What are the OEM shocks/struts (2003 4.2 S-Type (non-R))? I do not have electric plugs going into the shock towers. Yet, the Bilstein catalog offers too many options: How do I know if I have the "Sport Suspension" or "Standard Suspension" according to Bilstein? Were there REALLY multiple non-electronic suspensions available on the 2003 S-Type 4.2?

These are simple questions that I tried to find myself on this forum: I've had no luck so far. Of course, my wife will testify that I cannot see things directly in front of my face. Even if she's right, please help me out here.

John,

I've copied your question to S-Type tech forum. That is the place to ask this kind of question and where it will be seen by members with the same model as you have. Here's the direct link to it:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...hocker-102388/

Once members have posted a welcome here, they rarely come back to the thread and it may not get a an answer here.
