New Member From Kentucky
Hello to everyone I recently acquired my first Jaguar in a trade I made, it is a 2002 XJ Sport and i have been to this forum alot studying various things and trying to find solutions to its ailments i have seen how knowledgeable you folks are so i was silly for not joining sooner, the car runs and drives great i love it, it is just in need of some loving repair, I have found out from this forum that it has the wrong battery on it, the valve covers are seeping and i have a coolant leak on the front of the engine that is most likely in need of an aluminum thermostat housing, a new water pump, octopus heater hose assembly or all three, i am not above spending money on an older car especially one that i love like this kitty, so do you all have any encouragement or advice you can give a fella starting out in the Jag world with his first cat? I am an avid mechanic and love working on all my vehicles as ive always had foreign rides i have a 2013 Mini Cooper S Turbo Coupe and a 2003 Honda Goldwing GL1800 I would like to make the XJ a reliable daily driver for me an my wife, and with its ailments right now we are leaving it parked.
Thanks

Welcome.
Nice looking beast.
My suggestion for any brand of car at 15ish years old, is to do ALL the catch up things that have been let slide, then the "known" update issues.
A cooling system hose kit would be a very good starting point.
Overheating a V8 is as terminal as overheating one of my V12's.

Hello, Aaron,
As an avid mechanic, you'll get on Just Fine with your new Jaguar. Congratulations!
All they really ask is a little consideration, regular maintenance to keep the little things from becoming BIG THINGS! They only do that to get attention, ya know. lol
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Aaron,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Nothing serious or costly in your 'to do' list. I would change all the fluids (to give a baseline for future maintenance) and the cooling hoses as they could be up to fifteen years old. Not too much money but will prevent individual failures which can take the enjoyment out of ownership.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of the the X308 forum (XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum)is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
