Hi to all,

This is my 1st Jaguar, although I have been a fan of the Series II and III since boyhood.

I did take some time to test drive some new XFs, a 6cyl diesel and a 4cyl diesel. Once I drove the Twin Turbo V6 diesel, I could not look at any other. Reason for diesel, simple, the economy, the torque and the sweet sound of that V6. I am a torque junky since I unleashed the power of the boxer 6 in my previous daily drive. And my daily commute (both ways) exceeds 140 kms, mostly on freeways. The 6 speed ZF tranmsission has some good points and interested to engage others on addressing any weaknesses. The regional ZF repair shop is only a few kms from my place, so I will have to go and introduced myself.

The car itself is possibly one of the last off the Castle Bromich production line having a build date of 07 Apr 2011, but is definitely an MY11 shape (the headlights). It has a lot of goodies from the XFR, I think, with some really great seats (adjustable in too many directions), a lower front bar and rear lip spoiler, 20 inch Volans (8.5 front, 9.5 rear), side skirts, plus the black grille with the chrome edge.

I picked it up as a private sale in Coffs Habour, NSW and drove it back to Melbourne via Sydney and Canberra. A drive of more than 1,400 kms over two days and a great introduction to the car.

Most probably leave the car as stock but am tempted by some of the tuning possibilities. Happy to hear about your experiences in tuning the 3.0D S.

A couple of issues that I have diagnosed already:
1. Auto headlights and Auto Wipers not working - Service Dealer response, Auto headlights working correctly, Auto Wipers not fitted to this vehicle. After expressing my disgust with the Service Manager, he has decided that he will look at the issues again!
2. LED Strakes (we call them Daytime Running Lights or DRLs) turn off when the headlights are on. Is there a way to have the DRLs remain on or dim when the headlights are on? Has anyone got the wiring diagram for the DRLs? Would appreciate any tips from others who have the DRLs on an MY11.
3. Service Intervals - Seem to be too long, 12 months for Filter and Oil changes? I will be doing mine at 10,000 kms unless you can convince me otherwise. My previous car was spoilt with high quality oil (Redline) and high quality 30 ppm cotton filters (Trasco) with changes at every 10,000 kms.
4. The ZF 6 speed transmission. I have noticed a bit of hesitation in changing from 1st to 2nd, then all hell breaks loose (and the rear end). Is the engine torque constrained in 1st gear? Seems like I do not get the full measure until it has changed to 2nd gear.

So, I am planning to own this Jaguar for the long term so I should be on this forum for a couple of years.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Hello, Mark,
For this being your first Jaguar you're certainly knowledgeable about the species in general and your specimen in particular.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks for the welcome Cat_as_Trophy. If I get back to Coffs again, I will organise a coffee meet (or some suitable beverage)

Aaah Mark; . . . drat; drat; double drat . . . sounds like I had an absolute beauty sitting right under my nose, and missed it . . . LOL. Just had to come back and reaffirm all your first impressions about the V6 TTD . . . yes, I know yours is the 3.0L but mine, as the late production 2.7L, is still a most impressive drive. If you are EVER again in Coffs, please send me a PM so we can meet.

You really must dive over and around the Australian regional sections. Steve [yarpos] and fellow enthusiasts will roll out the red carpet if you post a "hello" thread into the VIC&TAS section . . . a great bunch with plenty of excuses to take your beastie for a meet and greet run . . . and I'll welcome your input into all things diesel in our specific Diesel section also.
Best wishes Mark,
Ken

Thanks Ken,

And I am very happy that you did miss it!!!

I understand the 2.7L is a very good engine. Pity that Ford only put it in the Territory. Why did they not extend it to the Falcon? Similarly the 3.0L with the TT? Economy and torque in a family hauler. May have breathed a lot more life in the Australian based manufacturing and production. Imagine a TTD in the Ute? The farm boys would have gone off.

I will drop in if I get to Coffs, and like wise, if you come to Melbourne, I work very close to the airport, so a coffee at the terminal is always on the cards.

I will also check out the Vic/Tas topic, as I am a weekend cruiser. I will definitely check out the diesel topic as well so I can see what, if any, mods people have under the bonnet.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Jim,

Appreciate the Full Member status, thanks. Also for the very useful links. I will work my way thru most, if not all. The trouble I face is that I am like a kid in a candy shop, can't make up my mind as to which to try first!

The download area has already been put to good use.

I do be liking your signature! Those one liners are gems, and true. I will update mine in time after I have read the handy link you have provided.

Kind Regards,

Mark.
