New Member From MO
Hello There....
Name is Joe aka Devil Dog. I just bought a 1997 Jaguar Vanden Plas. My first Jag. I am a 100% Jaguar ROOKIE. I am also not a mechanic, but have a mechanic friend that has worked on my car for many years since the car was his Grandmother's car. It was a great buy and I am looking forward to driving, learning, and enjoying my new Jag.
I am located in Hollister, MO, which is next door to Branson, MO.
I am a retired bass fishing guide, city/county government official, and Captain in the U. S. Marine Corps; hence the User Name: Devil Dog.
Semper Fi and thanks for letting me join your forum.

Welcome to the forum Joe,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
1997 was a model changeover year so you could have a late 6-cylinder (X300) or an early V8 (X308) ......?
Follow this link XJ X300 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X300 forum or this one https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x308-xj8-xjr-27/ to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of each is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Hi Joe:
And welcome from a fellow Midwesterner. Sounds like you found yourself a great car. Actually, that era Jag is well known as one of the best. So, armed with the knowledge you find here and perhaps a good independent mechanic for the things you can't or don't want to do, there's no reason you can't keep the car on the road for years and years to come - perhaps even with less anxiety than anything else in the same price range.
Enjoy it!
