The obstruction you felt was probably the anti-siphon block..,,Other than that it maybe a vent issue..good luck and welcome.

does it flow slow or does the gas nozzle kick off like its full? Might also be a problem with the stations nozzle.

its not the stations pump, its either the cannister close valve under the car which is supposed to be open when not energised so as you fill the pressure goes out the charcoal cannisters and allows the gas to go in the tank, you can disc the pipe temporarily to check if this stops the problem(will set a ck engine light though for evap leak, just go to auto parts store and have them clear it) if this is not it its the evap loss cap on top of the fuel tank and the tank has to be removed to change this
