My name is DJ van der Zanden (40 year) and live in a little village “Nieuw-Amsterdam” near the German border.

For 6 months I bought a Jaguar XJS convertible v12 1989 RHD from a German guy. The car was already for a few year in Germany. At that time I was already aware of the bad state of the car. But in the last few months I learned that people can really **** up restauration.

But ok, will restore the xjs back to its former glory. Have just purchased many new body pannels at SNG Barrett.

The xjs looked like this at purchase.

Repaired the left front and put multiple new parts of body.

Found on the right rear.

Old repair. Really bad!

Horrible repair of the floor pan

Hello,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar XJS - I think.
It has been some time since I saw a car, Any car in such poor condition, suffering such poor attempts at body work.
Doesn't it just sort of Get to you when you see this sort of thing?
Good Job taking on this task!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

I think my signature works now. Thanks for the tip!

How far can you go in restoring a XJS?

It does.

You will find a few restoration threads in XJS showing similar and worse rust problems that have been successfully overcome. A great car once you get them right but there can be a lot of pain and expense to get there.

If you start your own restoration thread in XJS forum, it will certainly attract interest and advice from other members.
