Default New member with an old S-Type

Hi folks,

I have recently acquired a 1963 S-Type with the 3.4L 6 cyl engine (auto). I'm up in the sticks in Townsville, Queensland and the car was located in Home Hill between sugar cane paddocks where no self-respecting Jag should find itself.

Currently, the car is in pretty original condition. ODO reads 14000km/miles but it has cooked two valves in the past and the head is off the engine. The block has a bit of surface rust as it's very humid up here, but luckily the car has been in a shed for the past 10 years. As you can see from the photos it was a gumtree ad and it cost $3500 as is. We think (and hope) it was a pretty good price.

My wife and I never thought we'd have such a magnificent car, so we are very excited. We won't be able to do much work on it til after October, so it's research time on how it's best to proceed, especially on what to do with the engine.

Anyway, an intro post is no good without photos!

Welcome.

AH, the memories.

I would work on keeping that engine. The 3.4 was such a sweet engine, and in MY opinion better than the 3.8.

Mine had the DG auto, which I swapped for a BW66, good update.

Welcome to the forum Balerion,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the
MKI / MKII S type 240 340 & Daimler forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the Australia - Queensland Region forum by following this link Australia - Queensland - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks all. I've gotten in touch with the local Jag club and they seem to be very friendly and keen to assist. They've floated an option to take out the 3.4 engine and pop in a XK6 4.2 which was essentially the same (apparently).

That way I can get the beast on the road and take my time fixing up the old engine if I ever want to take it back to stock
