Default 1993 xj6 hood won't open..

Drivers side pops right up, passenger is stuck. Cable actually came out about an inch past where it's supposed to be on the release lever. Pulling on cable as hard as I can or pushing down on the hood while in doing it makes no difference.

Has anyone ran into this issue and knows how to dislodge a stock hood latch? Any info appreciated.

Hi, I went out and looked at mine. The cables on both sides are on brackets that stick out inboard of the latch connected by clamp bolts. It looks like if you can make a coat hanger hook you might be able to grab the latch mechanism with it and pull to make it release. I suspect your clamp bolt slipped on the cable. This would be the same idea as using a coat hanger to unlock a door. Good luck. I hope someone comes by with a better answer...

Jerry, I will try that. I am thinking I can lift driver's side as far as I can and slide the hook in, then lower it and pull. Will attempt this weekend, and post results. Thanks.

Got it opened. This method only works if you have one side unlocked. If both are stuck, you're screwed. Mine was caused by a passenger side slider inside the lock rusting over and seizing.

1. Pop the latch and put a piece of wood (I used a short 4x4 block to keep one side propped open. Slide it in as much as you can to give you working space without damaging your hood.

2. Pull out the rubber weather stripping that's right underneath the hood inside engine compartment. You should have enough space to see the frozen lock now with a flashlight.

3. Working from the middle of the hood, use a long metal rod (I used about 2 foot long 3/8 wrench extension and place male end on the part of the lock that slides sideways on top of the locking mechanism. It's a small round part that travels in an arc shaped window when you pull the cable. (Mine was frozen and wouldn't move).

4. Carefully tap on wrench extension. It will cause the round part to move towards the fender and will unlock your frozen lock.

Hope this helps.
