Hi I have been looking for this model for a few years now and finally bought a good example 3.2 V8 120ks..A week into ownership and the car drives really nice have done 2000 kms on delivery without a hitch until driving into my home in Milford Sound South Island NZ.Its through mountains and quite steep and the Jag struggles when climbing temp wise..It doesnt show on the temp gauge but you can hear the gurgling when stopped. On both occassions Ive had to put in up to a litre of water. It has just been serviced where radiator was emptied and refilled with coolant and pressure tested-no leaks found. All other driving like I said normal conditions the cars temp doesnt move sits on half or just under, motor purrs..I have been advised it could be the Waterpump as these are problematic with the plastic impeller. Can anybody throw some light on this??

Welcome to the forum captaingrant,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Overheating is a V8 engine killer! The temperature gauge is useless and doesn't move from 'normal' until the engine is seriously overheated. The two regular causes of overheating are failed Water Pump (early plastic impellers break) or sticking Thermostat.

Follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308
forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome Kiwi.

As Graham has already said, get that cooling sorted, and quick.

A failed V8 is as costly as the NZ National Debt, well, not really, but to us mere mortals it sure feels like it.

A couple here have had the actual pressure cap go AWOL, and simply replacing it made things much better.

thank you..Yes Im very aware that an overheated motor is a wallet killer so am trying to determine the cause.I have it at a Garage and waiting diagnosis..Apparently the cooling fan is suspect at the moment but havnt heard back as to final conclusion.
Its a true concern as I live and work in a very remote mountainous area where the nearest civilization is a 2 hr drive through mountains etc ..So heres hoping they can sort it.Thank You I will post more when i know more . Captaingrant.
