Hello all you Jag's.

My name is David. I purchased a 2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0L with 120K miles on it.
The body was in terreffic condition. All the bells and whistles seemed to work fine. Except for all four A/C air vents, they were somehow destroyed by either a, not so handy, mechanic attempting to put in new air vents or maybe (just guessing here) a police search, looking for something inside the vents core. (you catch my suggestion, here). The top control panel, (aka: top light console, moon roof buttons, internal light switches) also has a tab or two broken off it, making it hang down about a quarter inch, on one side. (the drivers side) I've already priced and found the console on e-bay. But I am having all sorts of problems finding the air vents online.
I can get them at the dealer without a problem, but the price is ridicilous. Any suggestions. I'm headed to the junk yard, to see if I can find these puppies on another car. But I'd really like to get new, unworn vents.
David

Sorry for not properly introducing myself. I'm a 53 yr old man in San Antonio. I was out looking for a used car last week, and had my heart set on a Toyota Rav 4. Well, it turned out the Rav 4, which I was told by phone was still sitting on the lot before I got there, was sold, by the time I got there. How convienent. Now they have a customer looking at there other stock. Well, I didn't play that game. I walked out, and headed for another dealer. On the way there, I passed up a Ferrarri, Jaguar, Mazaretti dealership. SO I couldn't just pass it by. I stopped in, took a look at there not so afforadable Ferrarri's, and Mazeratti's. 200K minimum, on those. Way out of my budget. Told the guy, I was looking for a much less expensive car. He had a used 2000 Jag S-Type he had just received as a trade in. Test drove it, and became a Jag Fan. The rest is history. Been a Jag owner now for 3 weeks. Love the car, love the luxury options in it. However, in those 3 weeks, I've spent a little over 1500 on a checkup, and a few mechanical tweeks. Still needs the boots changed, and a few other things. I figure another grand or two, will bring it up to prestine condition. Not to mention, I need 4 air vents, and a console to bring the interior to mint condition. So I look at it as a restoration in progress. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. The car is Artic Silver, 16 wheel base, has all the options, and moon roof, (no navigation), A Tom Tom Go 730, handles that. I have a beat up CD Changer in the trunk...at first I couldn't find the controls in the front part of the car, but after investigating, found the wired remove, under the drivers seat, coiled up. The play button missing. SO, I'm pulling that thing out, first chance I get. And putting in an AUX source instead, to plug in my TOM TOM which can also play MP3's.
The tinted windows, I'm not to crazy about the deep dark color. So I'm chaning that as well. I found some light ground effects that will work for that car, so I might give in, and do that. Dont want to pimp it out too much. I'd rather put in these ANVI lights, I've used on my motorbike, if I can figure out how to install them on the cars' wheels. Lots of ideals here, but money is the actual determining factor for what I'll eventually do with it. Maybe I can really get it looking so good, I can enter an auction block with it, and proceed with another Jag. (big dreamer ain't I)

Feel free to comment.
David

hi david, welcome from north texas! not many regular posters stop in the new member area, for those s-type parts, best bet is to stop by the s-type area and make your request, you'll get some advice for sure once your thread is in that subforum.

good luck in your restoration project, doesn't sound too bad at all...just need vents! we do have a couple dealers as sponsors, and i've found their prices are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than just walking into your local jag parts. Gaudin Jaguar in Las Vegas has its own interactive parts system online, makes ordering easy and you can see prices right up front. Nalley jaguar in Atlanta is just as competitive on price, and gives jaguar forum members free shipping and 15% discount...very good deals. Give 'em a shot if you must go new, ok?

Yep, those two Jag parts stores, have only 2002 or later parts. Oh well, it was worth a try.

David, not sure if you were referring to Nalley or Gaudin, but I shop Gaudin's web site all the time. Try this link...use that dropdown to your MY 2000, and then s-type model..you'll see all the various categories to select from.

Thanks H2Oboy. I went to that link. Did a search for parts under the S-Type 2000. Found one air vent, but its the one for the rear console.
Well, to make a long story short. I went to google yesterday evening. Put in 2000 Jaguar S-Type in the search window. A bunch of sites came up, Ebay, kept coming up. Figured maybe someone had posted something new since my last search there. Well I had no luck. However I found a post from someone on there that had a raw 2000 S-Type, sitting as scrap in there Dallas Tx home. Emailed the woman, and told her what I was looking for. Well believe it or not, she had two for sure, maybe even the passangers air vent. (not sure what she meant by maybe -hehe) But finally, I found 50%, possiblly 75% of this part of my restoration. I also was going over all my car, to see if I miseed any part that might need changing out. And I found one more thing. I'm not sure what its called, but its the interior part of the car, the plastic cowling, that is right on top of the front dash, which covers the defrost air vents for the main windshield. It has developed a crack, right in the middle, branching out in two directions, one towards the passanger, and one towards the driver. I guess the heat, from sitting out in the parking lot at work. The theremoter hit 110 yesterday. And been at over 100 the last 50 days. I try to cover the interior from the sun, by finding shade, but its not always available. So there go's another probably $100 or more for that part.

Hello David and welcome to jaguarforums.com.

If you haven’t already you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for. To do this go to, User CP, Edit Signature, Add Vehicle Details and such and Save Your Signature.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

Also, should you have questions related to your vehicle please post it in the section for your model year (MY) car. This way you will reach all the members that are familiar with your MY car.

Hello Gus!
I'm sort of new to forums. I've done chat before, but never have entered a forum dedicated to a specific discussion online.
I'd like to do that Signature thing you talked about, but have no ideal how to even start to put my signature on a post. I looked for a tab at top, that might suggest to edit or even fill in information about me, but have no clue, where to look. This is a very large site. And each subdirectory has tons of reading material. Honestly I have no ideal how you guys keep up with such a task.
As I stated before, any help for this NEWBIE (that would be me) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David

HI David..
Welcome to the forum.
Congratulation on the new ride.
As suggested, you will have a better change of reaching more people on the S type sub-forum.
I do agree with the heat.. I'm from Houston, but currently on the business trip to Dallas, Austin and San Antonio.. the thermometer reaching 110 on most days....

Stay cool..
