Default New Member - UK - 1999 XKR Coupe

Howdy,

Nitch here from London UK. As I'm approaching my mid-life crisis, there were few options open for me:
1. Grow my hair, join a band and play a red guitar - I'm bald and can't play any instrument to save my life, so it's a pass
2. Change wives - Not going to ever do better than the one I have, I'm sticking with her till I drop
3. Get the car I wanted when I was 18. That's the Jaguar XK X100.

So mid life crisis preempted, and 2 weeks ago I bought myself a 1999 XKR, very very happy so far. As I owned a classic GT before (1971 Lotus Elan +2 S130), the Jag has the classic feel to it, but it also has some usability, and with two young children, doesn't require as much work as the Lotus.

It has 56K miles on the odometer, seems to be in good condition with most bits working, but has enough issues to keep me busy and feel like I'm getting something done. Already got tons of help from reading here, and I'm sure this forum will continue to make the ownership of this cat a pleasure.

Many thanks everyone for making this great community.

Here she is, with the old plates from the previous owner.

Cheers!

Stuff dealt with so far with the help of this forum:
1. Electrochromatic wing mirror had all the liquid in the bottom half. Replaced with a regular heated one
2. Radio required code and the previous owner never used it - luckily enough a previous owner velcroed it to the car, found it, works
3. Centre console switch pack not working - Fuse number 3 in the engine fuse box replaced and it works until the next time I use the alarm and the fuse blows again. Need to disconnect the security sounder.

To do:
1. Get it to the local Jaguar specialist to get checked
2. Fix A/C, probably condenser
3. Replace antenna mast

Welcome to the forums Nitch,

The band or a divorce weren't risky enough so you went for option 3 instead.

It sounds like you've already found the relevant model forum but if not, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
