Just joined this extremely useful forum. Here's my story:

We bought a 2007 XJR for my dear wife because she always wanted one, we're retired and have no urgent daily driving needs, and we can handle the financial risk. We paid about what you would spend on a three-year-old Corolla.

She's delighted. "Makes me feel like a princess!" Typically drives very few miles. So, on that basis, the 96,000 miles on the odometer are not a big factor.

Everything going fine since August. Swanning around town, envy of our friends, great for the occasional trip out of town.

Then a vandal broke the back glass as the car sat overnight in our driveway. No big deal, right? Just a few days to get the replacement glass, only about twice the price of any other car.

Then the Jag dealer informs my glass guy the glass is backordered until March of 2016! A five month wait!

Two questions:

1) Any suggestions on another channel to get a new backglass package?

2) Is it feasible to install a junkyard backglass? I understand the new glass comes with the necessary seals and other parts. Is there a way to get a set of these parts and use with a used backglass?

I'm really stumped here. Obviously parking the car for five months is not a solution. Any help greatly appreciated.

I can well understand how your Jaguar makes your wife feel like a princess. Incorrigible Tom Boy that I am, my Jaguar makes me feel like a Lady! It's my Favorite fashion accessory.

And you got So much more car than a mere 3-year-old Corolla, which are Everywhere.

A Pox in the house of the one who broke your back glass! And in your driveway no less!! Is there No respect anywhere?

I'm and independent insurance agent and if it were me I would call Safelite which has a nationwide network and will probably be half of what the dealer charges. Aftermarket glass should work fine.
