Hello from Tennessee! Just bought my 1989 XJ6 last week. I had to drive 4.5hrs to get it in Alabama. The guy I bought it from told me he has owned dozens of XJ's over the last 20+ years. The one I bought from him only shows 20K miles on it. It is a base mdl that seems
like, if not that low of miles, it has low miles. Looking at the carpet/pedals, etc. it is not a high mileage car. He told me he bought it 6 years ago from a guy that had it in storage for at least 12 years. But the last 6 years the car has been outside. About a year ago he had it repainted. The wood trim is not terrible, but is starting to peel up from exposure. Having never owned one before, it seems a little under powered, but adequate. I actually had wanted an XJS, but I thought for the money/condition this would be a good choice. Like a lot of people, the 12 cylinder in the S made me nervous even though I owned an 71 Series III E type a very long time ago that was pretty trouble free. The A/C needs a new compressor which I ordered. The brake pedal really has a long travel to it before the brakes become effective. Very soft pedal. The computerized dash only partly works. The fan for the heater/a/c is noisy and rattles. Some of the speakers sound blown. I was told the self leveling system has been deactivated and the rear has been modified to perform well. That is all that I can think of. I will need advice on the dash, the brakes, engine power, and other small but annoying problem the car has. I didn't pay much for the car, so I hope I have a diamond in the rough. Thanks!!

Welcome.

Smart looking XJ40, very hard to find these days.

Ask away on the XJ40 section. Many, many very knowledgeable people in there to assist with sorting what ails that car.
