My name is Basil and I live in Boston area. I have been looking for a nice car for a while. I’ve had older MBenz, a LR discovery. I hear that 95 96 and 97 Jag xj6 are more reliable but less charming than the older Jags. So I jumped in and got a car from the President of the South Florida Jaguar club. It is white with beige interior. It has done 76k miles. It has had 3 owners all in Miami and been serviced by Prestige and always garaged.

The car is being shipped now. Sadly I don’t have garage but I plan on getting a cover. It will live in New England.

I really wanted something from the 80’s as they are so charming but I also have a family and no garage and settled for a 96. It looks lovely and I hope it will be a joy. I change my oil in cars every 3k but don’t drive much so it will be more like 1000 miles since I will do it every 6 months. I think I’m supposed to use Premium fuel. So I’ll do that. But what else? Please forward any thoughts to me

I too, like the Series 2 cars, 1970's, in the 4 door style. Passed on the S3 and XJ40, never tickled whatever for me.

The X300, yours, is my favourite 4 door, and I had 2, one being the "R" version.

An X300 (the factory code for the 1995-97 XJ6) is a good choice. The earlier XJ6 Series I, II & III had build quality issues - none of them insurmountable but they are models which do require more attention. The XJ40 (the XJ6 from 1986-94) was very advanced electronically for its time but this does cause some issues now. The X300 benefitted from huge build quality improvement courtesy of Ford's massive injection of capital. It has proved to be one of the most reliable models Jaguar produced. The history on yours should ensure it's a very good example. I've owned examples of all except XJ6 Series III. Each one was a great ownership experience.

Maintenance is not difficult and you will find all the necessary information in the model forum. I like to change all the fluids on a new (to me) Jaguar but the provenance on yours suggests this could be an unneccessary precaution.

Small world! I'm also in the Boston area, and inherited a (wait for it!) 96 white+beige XJ6 from the sun belt (California) a few months ago. It was my mother-in-law's daily driver from new until her passing last November.
The X300 forum has a wealth of info and is full of friendly and knowledgeable folks. Reading through it is time well spent. There are some "they all do that" issues with the X300, but a lot of them are just annoying, like the droopy headliner.
I can't provide any first-hand mechanic recommendations. Except for tires and interior detailing, I've been able to handle the required work myself so far. Upton Foreign Motors gets rave reviews here on the Northeast forum and elsewhere.
