New Owner Introduction
Hello, all.
Name's Bryan, residing in Morrisville PA (just across the river from Trenton, NJ), who's just purchased my first Jag...been lusting over them since the XJ6 of the mid 80's, and finally was in a position to bring one into the stable.
Been a British car lover since my first, and somewhat sorry '63 MGB, complete with missing floors and a head gasket that kept more compression in the cylinder than oil in the pan. For many years, have been working on restoring Lotuses, starting with my first (a 1970 Europa S2, working through the second gen Elites, Turboesprits, and now have 2.5 Europas in the stable right one (one restored, another up on stands being resurrected to be sold off...)) through today. Not afraid of wrenching (the current restored one is a bare frame resto, which has brought home lots of trophies since being finished in 2009. Maintain a website (Bryan's Europa Site) to feed that particular fetish.
But, now adding an XJ8 to the stable: 1999, Titanium/oatmeal, VIN SAJHX104XXC863017 with 68K on the clock, one previous owner in MD. Couple of small dent wizard dings to take care of, no underbody damage I can see, dry boot, undercoated, little weeping on the top of the front of the oil pan flange, couple paint rubs on the bumpers. But, what a ride...have had Caddys (sedan de villes, sevilles)...this is a notch higher. Wow. Interior is clean, AC is cold, radio (well, someone snapped off the antenna...oh well, not a big problem to replace, I'm thinking) works, has the CD changer. Nice sinking into leather seats, that's for sure.
Anyway, have an independent Jag wrench lined up (he takes care of some of my other rides and is just as picky as I am about mechanical work; in fact, taught him to fly (I'm a part-time CFI), and as payment, offered me an XJ12 gratis after he passed his check ride...
) to look her over; figure right off the bat, check and replace the cam tensioners, water pump, serp belt, etc Just In Case. Anything else? The tranny front plate? Been active on google searching out the car...seems to be, for a complex and expensive car, not as problematic as some.
Figure with only 68K on the clock (which checks out via Carfax), she has plenty of life in her. Oh, yeah, all the manuals and dealer service slips are in the car!
So, looking forward to joining the Jag marque owners...and hope I can contribute as need be to the corporate memory. Will post some photos when I get a chance.
Thanks all!
Bryan

Not a newbie to British car ownership (FWIW, I know all the Lucas jokes, and used to carry the obligatory mallet to get the fuel pump in the MG working when the points were dirty back in the day.
So, this is a new experience...just talked to my mechanic...and lined up to take care of installing the timing chain update, new WP and thermo right off the bat with the updated parts. Take care of things first, to eliminate (or push off as long as possible...preventive maintenance usually pays for itself in the long run...)
And...hopefully, the photos (exterior 3/4 and interior) will make it to the server.
Again, thanks, folks. Feel better about the purchase as we speak.
