Default New XF 3.0 Diesel owner from the Netherlands

Hello everybody!

I am very happy that after a long search I finally found my XF!
But before I start bothering everybody with my dumb or excellent questions I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself first, as that would be a polite thing to do first

About me:
I live in the Netherlands, in the city Delft (or rather a small appendix of Delft) so I am not a native speaker, bear with me please.
Delft has a great technical university, with a world famous Aerospace faculty. In my daily profession I manage (but not officially) the (11!) Wind tunnels of the faculty whilst focusing on the larger projects. Needless to say that as a tech addict I really really love my job!
Be welcome to pay me a visit and see the facilities whilst in Delft!

I never really cared about cars when I was young. The interest only came later. 8 years ago I bought a Lotus, and that's where the interest in British motoring started. At the time i gave it a thought and I decided that I would meet bankruptcy within the year when I would take the lotus to the dealer for every rattle. From that moment on I decided to do everything myself! I have an Elan M100 which has the best online community one could wish for with lots and lots of knowledge. Only with online help on this forum (lotuselancentral.com) I felt confident enough to start with smaller jobs, and now I find myself overhauling turbo's, head gasket jobs, performance upgrades etc. So far for the Lotus...

For the family saloon however I was looking for reliability, so we drove a couple of BMW 5 series (sedan and touring). When the E60 /E61 line appeared Iost interest in mainly the interior design of BMW, and did not fancy an Audi or Mercedes E-type. I looked into an Skoda Superb with the 3,5 liter petrol (love the interior!, only in creme) But i was afraisd that handling-wise this would be a step back compared to the BMW. I always fancied the XF and my colleague recently bought a beautiful estate. So I started looking more seriously and: voila! A nice beige metallic 3.0L portfolio with creme interior on the driveway now! Not new (160.000 Km's), but in excellent condition. So My first Diesel and my first Jag have arrived and I plan to go the Lotus route: Do everything myself.

(this is not my driveway, but it is my car!)

I hope to find lots of DIY info on here and after a while I hope to contribute with technical assistance as well.
Finally what I like most of my lotus is all the people i have met tinkering and driving around with the car! I hope the same goes with the Jag.

Questions? Fire away!
Kind regards, HJ2 alias Henk-Jan
