Default New XK8 owner checking in

Hi all,

I joined the club last Friday, when I decided to give in to temptation and take on a semi-project status dark green '97 XK8 coupe, and I'm delighted to have found this forum and the collected wealth of information inside.

My Big Cat has an MOT for a year complete with a very long list of advisories (some I've already put straight), some obvious leaks, as well as a couple of extra issues I've found over a 1000 mile shakedown during the past few days. (What a lovely car to drive, even without working aircon... )
Right now I'm plotting a few repairs and a complete service of all fluids, filters and themostats... (76c or 83c degrees preferred folks?) for this weekend or next depending on if I can get everything together in time (which ought to keep me out of trouble for a few hours) and a later replacement of a rattly cat and a spot of welding to sort out a couple of underbody problems along with the replacement of a couple of troublesome seals that will require removing a few bits from the car.

I'm fairly well used to project cars, recently completed a '69 Mustang, with a formerly very rusty '70 in the works and an '84 Mini, so quite happy to weld, fettle and bodge all manner of mechanical and electrical stuff. I'll probably have plenty of questions around faults I've found, how to fix them, and who are reliable suppliers of parts in the UK.

Welcome to the forums Gorgonopsid,

Good to have you with us. 1000 miles of petrol at current prices is a shakedown in itself.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

...
so true.

Thankfully the last owner left me 4/5ths of a tank when I took it away, so it drew the sting a little, but I'm not going to be using her as a daily driver, more weekend fun as a long range cruiser (went to watch the Superbikes at Donnington, then a bit of a jaunt around the moors this past weekend) so it's unlikely I'll be racking that sort of mileage on a very regular basis.
