Default Newbie :-)

hi, im james and im from Coster del Porto (ellesmere port, Cheshire) lol

me and my boss have decided we need to have a winter project, and seens has he already has a mint XK8, we decided to have a little ebay search.
and we found a jag which is in need of desperate TLC, so we bidded and won it at only £1500 !

We are electrical and mechanical engineers for the industrial trade and have use of our site workshops and tools etc
I have a little bit of car mechanic knowledge as im always tinkering with my modified Focus ST, using it for car shows and track days etc

Its a 1998 dark blue XK8, 4.0 V8, 92,000 miles, MOT and Tax till feb 14 !

but its FAR from perfect.

Bodywork is a mess, 2" rust holes in the rear panels by the Jaguar and Xk8 badges, both rear arches are rusted, drivers rear sill has gone, front passenger wing has laquer peeling off, and front bumper is scraped to pieces.

Interor is a mess too, drivers seat all ripped, various plastic trim snapped/missing, elec drivers seat dosnt work and the 3rd brake light unit is hanging off by the wires, carpets moldy and rubbish everywhere !

The dash Says 'gearbox fault' when put into drive and gose into limp mode, and the engine had a loud random tapping noise which comes and gose.

We have already fitted a new gearbox, and replaced all the timing tensioners and guides, and mechanicaly shes sweet as a nut !

I will be opening a project thread with the progress and pictures as we go along

A few pics when she arrived :

Welcome to the forum James,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar Forums.

I can see you like a challenge. At that money I'm surprised the deal included an engine and transmission!

I'll be particularly interested to follow the bodywork stage of your project as I expect this is an issue that will affect more and more members in the UK due to our highway authorities love of spreading salt on the roads.

Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK Region forum by following this link UK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in this country.

Good luck and enjoy the forums.
