Hi, Just joined as I've ventured into my first Jaguar, a 1993 BRG XJ40 Sovereign last Friday. Looks to be a very decent car, hope it's good to me. My family and friends think I've gone kook buying a Jag what with all that unreliability and what not. But Gee I've always wanted one, and it's just so darn pretty. Anyhow looking forward to meeting a lot of you in the ol jungle, lots of cats...oh my!

Good for you, welcome to Jaguar ownership, few problems here and there (maybe) but one of the most unique cars on the planet.

It's far more than decent man.

I'm guessing you live in england, because I don't think the US has sovernigns and what not, but I bought a 1993 xj40 in early march, and it has been great so far.

Are cars should be very simular, so PM me if you got any questions.

Welcome. Never heard of an ugly Jag, so nice car, but I'd like to know what a sovereign is.

It's a trim package between the base XJ6 and the Vanden Plas. In 1992 the also had the Majestic, which was another trim option. For all practical purposes, they are the same. The Sov, like the VDP, will have gold inlay in the wood and picnic trays for the rear passengers. Different color combo's, etc. Too many details to remember them all.

'93 and 94 are my most fave XJ40s .As Irecall, Sovereign only comes with the 4.0 liter engine ,XJ6 is 3.2 liter .
Welcome and don't concern about reliability '92 and up quite reliable cars

All XJ40 six cylinders in the states are 4.0 liters. We never got the 3.2. We did have the 3.6 from 88 to 89.

I agree about the 93/94. I like the fog lamps integrated with the front spoiler rather than hanging off the front bumper like the 88 to 92 models.

And I agree about the dependablity. These have more nagging problems then major concerns. Remember to keep up with your suspension components. One reason you have such a nice ride in these is the ball joints, control arm bushings, etc take all the pounding. Also, take care of the wheel bearings so you don't have to buy hubs and hub carriers down the road.
