Hello folks,

Thought I'd better be a good boy and say hello first before posting.

I don't own a Jag and so far never have. However, when I was a child one of my uncles had a late 70's Daimler that made a rather lasting impression. If I had somewhere under cover to keep one and could afford the fuel and upkeep I would love an XJ6.

Future plans do at present involve a newer Jaguar (of sorts, a bit of badge engineering) though possibly not for the best reasons if you're a purist, but I'll post more about that in the 'S-Type' forum.

Regards,

Smiler.

@Smiler

Yes, Jaguars do tend to leave a lasting impression on you. I saw and interacted with my first Jaguar when I was 14 years old in the UK. I had to wait a further 24 years and move countries before I got my first one. Since then I've sold one and bought 3 more, so I am quite taken by them.

Hopefully you get your hands on an S-type soon and start to live the dream :-)

Thankyou all for the warm welcome.

I would love to own an old Jag but I'm afraid that they are simply beyond my mans at the moment. I could save up and buy a nice one only to then watch it sitting outside slowly rotting away due to lack of under-cover storage and not enough spare cash to fuel her (I'm sure most people on here will no what lack of use can do to an old car).

So I shall admire the old Jags from the sidelines.

However, as I have mentioned in my thread in the S-type section, I am more than happy to take advantage of the rock-bottom values of 'Jags of a certain age' and poach some of the good bits. For anyone who is curious but hsn't been to look, I am looking into the prospect of picking up an early 3.0ltr manual S-type for approx £500 with a sound engine but baggy rear bushes and tired cosmetics and transplant the engine and gearbox into something a little older, my '71 Reliant Scimitar SE5 GTE.

But that's another story on another thread.

Thanks again,

Smiler.

Welcome to the forum Smiler,

Wise choice. An older Jaguar takes deep pockets and plenty of patience. The S-Type is a better prospect.

Enjoy the forum.
