Default Newbie to Forum - 2010 Xk Convertible Spectrum Blue Conv.

Hi to all! ( Florida, USA)

I'm a third-time Jag owner. This one we just bought. It's giving me major grief.
I knew when I saw the instrument panel it was a horse of a different color. My prior
Jags - 1998 XK8 Conv. and a 2001 XKR Supercharged Conv. They were so easy to
care for and know how to drive.

We picked up this one a week ago today and I haven't even ridden in it yet! We've been
taking it to get it checked out to make sure it was in good condition. Traveled 4 hours and
had to take our three dogs, stay in a hotel to be able to pick it up in North Miami. NO, we
did not get it checked out first.

How naive we were to take the salesman/dealer at his word that it was in "excellent condition." He
touted how it had been kept in an a/c garage and the owners only came down once a year from
Canada and drove it for two months. He did not have a Carfax on it. Yes, I had reservations but
my husband did not.

The shop that we have always trusted and has a superb reputation has really let us down. I'm been furious
with them and we are not taking it back to them although they want us to in three weeks to check the to see if they got the
"OIL LEAK" fixed! The diagnostic report was maddening. I asked them beforehand if they knew how to work on this
car and they assured me they did. (Remember excellent reputation) So I trusted them.
They said they didn't check the battery or the filters because they were too hard to get to. The car has 18k miles
on it and they figured since it was running and only had that many miles on it, they didn't feel they needed to check
those things and the diagnostic test really didn't include removing wheels etc.

We had the car detailed the day before taking it to the shop. ( another sad story from a "reputable place") and understand
it should have gone to the shop first then for detail, anyways, it came home with all kinds of stuff on the finish and grease
on one seat. Yeah, I was pretty upset. But I was even more upset when I found that the back window glass was separating
from the canvas on the top of it. My husband had told me there was something black on the inside of the back of the top.
I hadn't seen it. I looked inside and saw that it is mold/mildew.

We went out to get in the car to take it to get the windows tinted and found the battery was DEAD! I was told you have to
turn it off twice to turn off the electronics or it will drain your battery. So I was told to get a battery tender/maintainer and I've
ordered it.

So, my questions to you all are.
1. What do you use to reglue the glass to the top and what is the procedure? Do we need a pro to do it?
2. What gadgets do we need to keep the car running? I was told about a cat battery tender and given a link, so I
have ordered it.
3. Please give tips -- my mind is already blown!

Hello,
I am So sorry you got shafted, by the salesman and BOTH shops you have trusted for years.
How Disappointing!

Joke: How do you know if a used car salesman is lying? His mouth is moving.

Your husband was seduced by those Gorgeous lines and that Luscious color, and every logical thought in his head was Instantly turned to jelly.
He was Smitten.
It's a Guy Thing.

Someone will be along shortly to direct you to the correct section where you can find help and advice how to deal with this situation. I might be tempted to cut my losses and invoke whatever Lemon Law is available in your area and get as much of my money back as possible, but that's just me, as I have NO patience when someone has lied to me.

I hope you can find resolution or at least satisfaction.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forums Debbie_Jags,

The glass coming away from the top has been discussed and resolved so you'll get advice on this in the X150 forum. As you've already discovered, these vehicles are very sensitive to battery condition and charge. A CTEK or equivalent tender is essential unless the vehicle is driven regularly.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk-xkr-x150-33/ to the X150 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thank you to all for the hearty welcome! Being a newbie here it will take me a bit to get in the groove and figure all the things
out here. I appreciate any and all advice. We are working on rectifying the things on the car.
We did get a battery tender and I've ordered a code reader. The 2010 Jag is certainly a lot different than the '98 XK8 and the '01
XKR Supercharged I had. They were so easy. Yesterday, I rode in the 2010 XK we bought a week ago. Eventually, I may
even drive it!

The X150 is a big jump in technology from your previous XK8 and XKR with considerably more complex electronics. Keeping the battery fully charged will prevent a lot of niggling issues but don't be surprised to find several stored or pending codes when you put a reader on it. This era of Jaguars have a tendency to trigger codes simply because of minor out-of-range sensor readings. Most often they are not a cause for concern but after your buying experience you may not be in a forgiving frame of mind.
