Default Uncle Randolph Left me His Jag

Hello, my name is Asa and I am living in New Haven, CT. and originally from Maine.

My uncle Randolph was a playboy and spent most of his life galavanting the world. Including the 26 years he lived on a boat in the Mediterranean.

He owned many nice cars in his life, when he died this winter he left his last one to me his 2002 Jaguar XK8. (55k miles)

I am not much of a car enthusiast. I can change a tire, and maybe a little more. But I want to keep this car in his memory and I know it takes some doing.

It has a few issues I’ll need to start researching here. I also need to find a shop near New Haven, CT if anyone knows of a good one.

The 2017 battery must have some draw, because it dies after 2 days of sitting. I’m not able to keep a trickle charger on it and I understand jumping it is a bad idea.

There is a loud fan noise from inside the dash behind the left most vent.

The roof must be locked and unlocked by hand, but moves automatically. I’ve tried to find a video of manual operation, but can’t find one.

Uncle Randolph

First “Wonderfully Impractical” Car.

His last road trip to Canada

I can’t bring myself to sell it.

It’s a beautiful car, I’m a lucky guy.

Hello, Asa,
I decided some time ago that my NEXT Jaguar would be one of these. Right down to the color.

Your Uncle Rudolph sounds like a real Hoot! I bet he was One Fun Guy to be around.
What a Wonderful car he's left you. I can fully understand why you want to keep it, even with all its warts.
Members of the section where Graham has directed you will help you get it in tip top order.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Default Welcome Asa

Congrats on being gifted a car with such a wonderful history. These are wonderful cars and definitely not difficult cars to maintain. I have a collection of over 20 cars, but my 06 XK8 is my daily driver and still one of my favorite cars . Spend a little money and get it sorted out properly. It may cost a little bit in the beginning but after that it shouldn't cost too much to maintain. Enjoy it just the way your uncle Randolph did. He obviously knew how to live well so take the wheel and see where he takes you. I believe you will enjoy a lot of miles and memories, big smile on your face sitting in that driver seat.
