Default Newbie to forum but 2nd XJ

Hi. I am new to the whole forum idea. I am now on my second XJ. My First time driving came at the age of 3 when my Dad had a Mark II. The story goes it was his pride and joy and he had left me in it to go into a shop when I climbed over into the drivers seat turned the key, pressed the start button and forced it into reverse. Rear bumper met with wall and wall then fell on car. I apparently was uninjured even after my Dad came back! Well I have to say I am a much better driver these days. My first Jag was a 96 XJ6 that I bought 4 yrs ago, she was a great reliable car up until my Wife hit a dear just before Christmas 09. Lots of parts available BTW! Now after a month of searching I am the proud new owner of an 03 XJ8 VDP.
My reason for coming to this site is a search for information to help me get through the inspection in MD. The XJ failed today on a side marker, lower right ball joint and lastly that has me stumped side to side play in the steering column. If any on has had this issue any help would be greatly appreciated. I usually do all the maintenance on My Jag and Land Rover and have manuals for the old XJ and the Landie But I need help with the new XJ8 until I can source a manual for that.
Well I think you now know more than enough about me so I will let you all get on with something more interesting.
Thanks
Jaxter

Depending on how you get on, you could also try the general tech help section and or asking Brutal, ken@britishparts and Real tech on this site.

All knowledgable individuals who may be able to offer advice and or help with good pricing on any parts that may be necessary

Hello from TX jaxter! I sure hope dear old dad doesn't bring up the Mark II when he needs to make a point, after all, they are valuable collectors items these days.

I sent my Dad pictures of the ,96 XJ when i first bought it with my son sitting in the drivers seat. My Son asked "What was your first Jag?" The reply was the Mark II and he sent a picture of it that I had never seen before. The guilt of 30 odd years was overwhelming!!
